National Housing and Homelessness Plan Submission

In this submission to the National Housing and Homelessness Plan (NHHP) consultation, Yfoundations calls on the Australian Government, in partnership with state and territory governments, to develop and fund a standalone National Child and Youth Homelessness and Housing Plan that outlines the approaches and resources required to effectively prevent, intervene and respond to children and young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness.

Yfoundations argues it is critical that unaccompanied children and young people at risk of or experiencing homelessness do not get lost in an NHHP that, in the main, focuses on adults. This submission elaborates on the different pathways into and experiences of homelessness for children and young people in Australia, and the age and developmental approaches required to address child and youth homelessness.

Submitted in October 2023, the submission contains 17 recommendations and is the culmination of extensive advocacy, research and consultations with the youth homelessness services sector and advocates.
